At the heart of it

An early lesson in Drawing 101 is to draw what you see, not what you think you see. At first, you pretend. Slowly, you start to see differently. You learn to resist what you think you know and see what’s really there.

Great design, too, begins with forgetting yourself; it starts with attentive curiosity and open-hearted inquiry. Everyone and everything has a story worth hearing—from tires to waffles to parks.
